*WE ARE ESPECIALLY INTERESTED IN REAL LIFE SIBLINGS FOR THE ROLES OF JACK AND EMMA*
Mum: Miriam Murphy
In her early 40s, well dressed, a bit tired looking but well groomed. Typical mum.
Dad: Tony Murphy
Mid to late 40s. Rugby build, middle management in civil service. Tall and handsome. Well dressed.
Daughter: Emma Murphy
A young looking 12 year old. Pleasant girlie girl. Self assured(with a bit of a swagger) but behind the mask a frightened little girl.
Son: Jack Murphy
9/10 year old Into techie stuff like star wars etc, not overly verbal, typical young boy, annoying younger brother, dad’s pet
Tony has his kids for the day. He takes Emma and Jack to the park and gets them chips as a treat, telling them to keep it a secret from their Mum, Miriam. He persists in quizzing them about Miriam’s social life. They get back to the apartment and Tony wangles his way into the apartment, despite Miriam’s protestations. Later on, we see Emma and Jack intheir bedroom, frightened, listening to their parents fighting in the other room. In the final scene Emma talks to a Social Worker about her home life.
This is a middle class family living in suburban Ireland. Miriam and Tony married 12 years ago after a two year relationship. They had Emma nine months later and Jack 2 years after that. Tony and Miriam have been separated for six months, and Miriam has a barring order in place against Tony but the court has ordered that access take place once a week. Miriam is devastated by this but the children seemed anxious to spend time with their dad. Tony pays Miriam some maintenance but it is a constant struggle and it has had to go through the courts.
